The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation and radio station WWOZ-FM will host a community Day of Service on Wednesday, April 29, at New Orleans Habitat For Humanity’s Musician’s Village in the Upper Ninth Ward.
The community is invited to join us in helping to build houses for our musicians and cultural community.
To volunteer, please register by calling (504) 558-6100, or send us an e-mail. Registration will close at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22.
Participation Details:
Volunteers must arrive by 7:30 a.m. at the Musician’s Village (an exact location will be provided on April 27) and stay on the work site until 3:30 p.m.
There will be a one-hour lunch break starting at 11:30 a.m. All volunteers are asked to bring their own lunch, as well as a water bottle (water will be available at the construction site for refilling bottles). During the lunch hour we will have a musical performance and a press conference announcing successes in the Foundation’s Raisin’ the Roof housing program.
It is not necessary to bring any tools, but you may bring your own tools if you wish. Especially useful are a tool belt, hammer, measuring tape, pencil, razor knife, cat/bear claw, etc. Please clearly label all of your tools.
Footwear needs to be sturdy, with closed toes and heels. Boots or sneakers are both considered appropriate footwear, but sandals and are not.
The Day of Service will go on rain or shine.
Please prepare for the weather by checking the forecast before you arrive at the work site. If it is sunny, please bring a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses. If it is raining, please bring a jacket, raincoat and/or rain boots.
You will receive a short orientation once you arrive at the work site, which includes a safety lecture. In addition, you will receive on-site training on tasks to which you are assigned. Your assigned meeting place for this safety briefing may not be the same as your work site location, but your work site will be in the same neighborhood. Please be prepared to drive to your work site after the briefing.
All volunteers must agree to hold the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, WWOZ and Habitat for Humanity harmless and free from any liability in the event of an accident at the work site.
Thank you for helping us to serve our community.
