Andrew Young to Speak Sept. 8 at Tulane
Andrew Young, former United States Ambassador to the United Nations, will speak on Wed., Sept. 8, in a Tom Dent Congo Square Lecture at Tulane University's Dixon Hall.
Former United States Ambassador to the United Nations Andrew Young will speak in a Tom Dent Congo Square Lecture to comemorate the opening of an exhibit of Tom Dent's papers at the Amisatad Research Center.
Young, a New Orleans native, grew up with Tom Dent. The two men shared many struggles in the fight for civil rights in the 1960s.
Young's talk, "My Journey with Tom," will take place at 7 p.m. at Tulane University's Dixon Hall. Admission is free.
Tom Dent (1932-1998) was an author, playwright, oral historian, journalist, poet and an executive director of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation.
The Amistad exhibit, "A Heavy Trip Through the South," examines Dent's life and career through his many literary artifacts, including letters, manuscripts, photographs and more.
