This free event is presented by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, the nonprofit that owns the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell, and uses the proceeds from Jazz Fest for year-round programs in education, economic development and cultural events.

As in the past, the Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival will be presented in conjunction with the Louisiana Seafood Festival and the French Market's Creole Tomato Festival.

With two stages of music, great food, beautiful, hand-made crafts and lots of dancing, the festival is a fitting tribute to the fun-loving culture of southwest Louisiana.

“Especially now, with the tragic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico threatening our sensitive wetlands and our entire seafood culture, we are proud to partner with the Louisiana Seafood Festival and the Creole Tomato Festival,” said Don Marshall, Executive Director of the Jazz & Heritage Foundation. “Local seafood, fresh Creole tomatoes and Cajun and zydeco music – who could ask for a better combination?”

Fresh local seafood – all certified as safe – will be plentiful at the event, which will feature top Louisiana chefs on a cooking demonstration stage.

Zydeco – the hard-driving dance music of Southwest Louisiana, with pumping rhythms and a strong R&B influence – will be heard at a stage located in front of the Mint on Esplanade Avenue. Cajun, the time-honored two-step and waltz sound that relies most often on acoustic instruments, will be the focus of a stage located within the Mint grounds at the corner of Barracks and Decatur streets.
