Founded in 1939, the Blind Boys of Alabama first began singing together at the Alabama Institute for the Negro Blind at Talladega.

Releases by the group in recent years have been favorites at the Grammy Awards - they won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album every year between 2002 to 2005. The Blind Boys of Alabama were inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2007. In 2009, they were awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Mahalia Jackson Youth Choir is an award-winning choir representing churches, schools and the community, now in its 18th year of performing. Recently, the choir performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, at the invitation of Marion Wright Edelman of the Children’s Defense Fund. The purpose of the choir is to build camaraderie with others and perpetuate gospel music. The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell has been a longtime supporter of the choir.
