The devastating spill created by the April 20 explosion of the Deepwater Horizon rig continues to spew crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico just 50 miles from the Louisiana coast. Efforts to contain the leak (about 210,000 gallons a day) and keep the oil out of our sensitive wetlands continue. But the effects on the area's wildlife and fishing industry could be disastrous.
In response, community radio station WWOZ 90.7 FM (which is owned by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation) — in conjunction with Mardi Gras World, SDT Waste and Debris, Rehage Entertainment, the Jazz & Heritage Foundation and others — present Gulf Aid
, a benefit concert to be held this Sunday, May 16, to raise funds in support of Louisiana fisherman and wetlands preservation.
The all-star lineup includes: John Legend, Lenny Kravitz, Allen Toussaint, Mos Def, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Dr. John, Kermit Ruffins, and many more.
