Treme Creole Gumbo Festival

Treme Creole Gumbo Festival

The second annual Treme Creole Gumbo Festival is this weekend at the Jazz & Heritage Center (map). Besides great performers like Kermit Ruffins (pictured), the festival features gumbo cooking demonstrations and the fourth annual Jazz & Heritage Holiday Bazaar . For the complete schedule and more details, see TremeGumboFest.com. Admission is free.

Holiday Bazaar

Holiday Bazaar

The festival also includes our fourth annual Jazz & Heritage Holiday Bazaar. This is a great shopping opportunity - and the only place outside of Jazz Fest to get official Jazz Fest t-shirts. We'll also feature three dozen of the area's top artisans, purveyors of fine, hand-made home furnishings, wearable art and other items for the home. See the complete list of craft vendors here.

Andrews Family Reunion

Andrews Family Reunion

As a special treat, we have all three horn-playing members of the Andrews family performing on Sunday. Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews, Glen David Andrews and James Andrews (pictured, from left) each will perform with their bands, and then together for a grand finale. See a video interview with the three Andrews guys on Nola.com here. See the complete schedule of performances  here.

Cooking With Fire

Cooking With Fire

Each of our four invited chefs will do a special demonstration of their gumbo cooking techniques during the festival. At noon and at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, chefs Wayne Baquet of Li'l Dizzy's Cafe, Linda Green of Miss Linda's Catering, Cherie Brocato of TCA Brocato and Drexel Carter of the Praline Connection will showcase a different style of gumbo.

Lagniappe

Lagniappe

For the Who Dat Nation, we'll have a (moderately) large-screen TV to watch the Saints game on Sunday. Geaux Saints! We'll also have hot drinks - not to mention hot gumbo - if the weather turns chilly. And there will have plenty of cover in case it sprinkles. We roll rain or shine!
