The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation is pleased to partner with the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz to present the renowned bassist John Patitucci in a free concert on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 7:30 p.m. at Loyola University's Roussel Hall. The concert is part of the Foundation's Jazz Journey series.

Since attracting worldwide acclaim as a member of Chick Corea's Elektric Band and Akoustic Band - a creative association that has now spanned 18 years - Grammy-winning bassist John Patitucci has become one of today's most influential musicians and composers.

In addition to being a leader, Patitucci is a longstanding member of saxophonist Wayne Shorter's quartet as well as a regular participant in trios led by drummers Roy Haynes and Jack DeJohnette. His astounding trio features saxophonist John Ellis, a top tenor player on the current jazz scene and former saxophone teacher at Loyola University/New Orleans, and drummer Kendrick Scott, who has performed and recorded with Crescent City native son Terence Blanchard for the past several years.

In its New Orleans debut, the trio will present new works from Patitucci's latest Concord Jazz project, "Remembrance," a remarkable outing of straight-ahead-to-funky and classical-tinged originals. Patitucci's sensitivity, inventiveness and tone have established him as one of the leading lights in contemporary and Brazilian jazz. Few can emulate the scope of Patitucci's impact on modern and traditional music.

The Jazz Journey concert series is a longstanding program of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, the nonprofit organization that owns the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell. The Foundation uses the proceeds from Jazz Fest for year-round programming in the areas of education, economic development and cultural events. The Foundation is pleased to continue its partnership with the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz to present free concerts by the world's leading jazz musicians. Previous artists presented through the collaboration include Brian Blade and Kurt Rosenwinkel. For more information, please see jazzandheritage.org.
